Mechanical Binding
PUR Adhesives differ from conventional hot melt glues in that they cure by crosslinking, via a chemical reaction, with moisture contained in the paper stock or surrounding air. Once cured, the adhesive's higher molecular weight provides a tough, pliable bond that is resistant to temperature extremes. PUR Adhesives deliver distinct performance benefits over typical binding adhesives, including:
- Bond cross-grain, coated and recycled stocks
- Improve lay flat characteristics
- Resist temperature extremes from -45°F (-43°C) to 200°F (93°C) after cured
- Decreased coating thickness by half that of conventional hot melts
- Low application temperatures mean book block is subjected to less heat
- Increase Page-Pull values
