Die Cutting

The average person is likely to see well over a hundred advertising messages a day. That means it's more important than ever to make a printed piece stand out from the crowd. After all, every item that bears a company's name acts as an advertisement for it. One great way to differentiate printed products is by incorporating die cutting into the design. The versatility of die cutting makes it ideal for a wide range of uses, such as placing a window on a book cover, business card slits in a pocket folder, or an outline of a city skyline on a promotional piece.
Planning Tip
Clearly mark gripper and side guides - To facilitate the die cutting process, be sure to clearly mark the gripper and side guide on your uncut press sheets. These marks allow us to hold the best registration during the die cutting process. In addition, leave a 1/2" margin at both the gripper and guide (in addition to any full bleeds the sheets may have).
State-of-the-Art Die Making
Creating an accurate die is one of the most difficult aspects of die cutting. At Seidl's Bindery, we use a sophisticated CAD/CAM computerized die line drawing system that allows us to create the most accurate dies possible. Using a CAD computer program engineered specifically for die making, we review your die files for accuracy. We then send the file to an electronic plotter, which creates a transparent die line sheet that can be laid directly over your press sheet to ensure that all lines are exactly where they should be. The CAD files are then used to create the die.
This system saves you time and money by allowing changes to be made prior to the creation of a die. We can also create an accurate die file for you to use as a layout, ensuring that your printed sheets are laid out properly for the die cutting process.
The Seidl Advantage
At Seidl's Bindery, we're continually looking for ways to make binding and finishing as worry-free as possible for you. In addition to using CAD/CAM computer technology to create accurate dies, we can perform a complete range of post press production services in-house. Since many die cutting projects also involve several other production steps, a "single-source solution" such as Seidl's Bindery allows you to benefit from production that's both faster and more tightly-managed.
